Dear WEEC Friend, Thanks for visiting our website today “Celebrating Five Decades of The Father’s Faithfulness”, that is the theme for our upcoming Sharathon, March 22nd through 24th 2011. You’ll want to mark your calendar for this very important reunion of giving. One of the recurring themes in scripture is to remember what God has done for us. Psalm 77:11 says: “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” In many ways, the 50 year history of WEEC has been one big miracle. Here is a brief recounting of God’s miraculous provision for this radio ministry through five decades: In the early 1960’s when our nation was in much turmoil, three men; Paul Pontis an engineer, Dwight Coffelt a candy man and Glenn Greenwood a preacher were called by God to start a radio station with just $10 and a desire to proclaim the Gospel over the airwaves. In the early 1970’s God brought along a visionary named Mel Johnson who dared to ask God’s people to provide for God’s work at 100.7 FM and Sharathon was born. In the mid 1980’s God began to work in President and General Manager Mike Maddex to provide WEEC its first permanent home. Land was purchased across the street from the old farm house and a new tower was raised to increase our coverage area. In the early 1990’s Mike Maddex announced plans to build a $500,000 studio / office complex for WEEC with nothing but faith on hand. Within a few months an unexpected estate gift came in for over $200,000! In the decade that followed the turn of the century, God allowed us to retire all our debt and expand our outreach. We began a discipleship ministry followed by additional audio channels. First our Spanish station, then Southern Gospel and finally an all Traditional music channel. Our theme verse for Sharathon 2011 says it all: “The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it”. -- 1Thessalonians 5:24. God has been faithful to provide for His work through His people for the last 50 years and He will continue to be faithful. If you choose to support WEEC, here are a few miracles you can be a part of in the next decade: We believe…. - The next step for an additional audio channel should be one especially for young people. - God is leading us to expand our Internet ministry to help Christians grow in their faith and unbelievers find the Savior. - The Internet and emerging technologies can not only be used to promote our multiple channels worldwide, but they can also be used to minister one on one with folks with deep spiritual needs. - God would be honored if we strengthened our local and international ministry partnerships. In this way we could play a small role in expanding the Kingdom of God. As we stand here at the beginning of a new decade, your WEEC family is excited! The future is as bright as the promises of God. If we keep our hands clean and our hearts tuned with His, we believe he will use this ministry until He returns for His Church.
